Chocoholics guide to Toronto

Chocoholics Guide to Toronto

Hello, my fellow chocoholics and sweet treat lovers!

As a self-proclaimed chocolate connoisseur, full-time chocoholic and now self-appointed Global Chocolate Taste Tester, I took it upon myself to source, sample and select the best places to get your chocolate fix in downtown Toronto.

Life is too short to eat bad chocolate.

Best Chocolatiers

The Golden Apple_Toronto

The Golden Apple – Tucked away in the up and coming area of Liberty Village is this funky confectionery store with artsy truffles, an array of candied apples, unique barks, and chocolate coated almost everything. I discovered chocolate dipped chips – they were moreish, and I think about them every day.

Purdys – After sampling a chocolate bar from each chocolatier in the city, Purdys was my hands down winner. Definitely, try their signature hazelnut praline filled Hedgehog choccies.

Best Chocolate Experience

Cacao 70 – With more than 8 pages on the menu dedicated to chocolate indulgences – you will be left wanting to try one of everything. They have it all from chocolate topped pizzas, waffles, fondue to ice-cream and decadent hot chocolates! It was the chocolate, peanut butter fondue that had me claiming this was what my heaven would be filled with .

MoRoCo Chocolat – A plush Parisian bistro in the trendy Yorkville area. MoRoCo Chocolat’s menu is a refined take on the classic chocolate indulgences like cheesecake, chocolate torte, fondue and s’mores as they vamp them up to fine dining status.

Macaroon

Best Patisserie

Butter Avenue – A tiny jewel case of delicate miniater tarts and macaroons, that really do look too good to eat. These works of art taste just as divine as they look. Their handcrafted macaroons were also by far the best.

Nadege –  This sleek Parisian patisserie sells an array of artfully crafted glossy looking cakes, macaroons and chocolates. But it is their perfect pastries and croissants that won over our hearts.

Best Hot Chocolate

SOMA –  This Toronto founded chocolatier doesn’t just serve the normal add water and stir hot chocolate, but rather pure liquid chocolate in a cup! They have a variety of options – shot of drinking chocolate, or plain dark chocolate or Mayan hot chocolate (which incorporates a variety of spices). You can grab your drink to go or admire the chocolatiers at work in the open kitchen.

Other Chocolaty mentions

Prairie Girl – When you bite into a fluffy chocolate frosting topped cupcake and you know you have met your soulmate, well that is what this little shop offers.

Sweet Olenka’s – Family run confectionery store famed for their variety of made from scratch ice creams.

Sweet Jesus 4 Life – Dishing up a selection of overwhelming pimpled out soft serve cones/cups that tower up and consist of every topping imaginable. In summer expect long queues and consider sharing as they are HUGE!

Stubbe – A sixth generation chocolate maker based in midtown.

BeaverTails – And finally what trip to Canada would be complete without sampling a comforting BeaverTail. These warm flat doughnut-like pastries are topped with your choice of toppings – anything from cinnamon and sugar to cookies and cream.
